A backer plate is an additional piece of coro that some prop manufacturers include to reinforce the slit on a prop that was folded for shipping. It acts as a doubler behind the prop and adds thickness in that area. This matters for certain mount designs because some mounts sit on top of the backer plate, creating a slight height difference that needs to be accounted for to ensure proper alignment.
